EMPLOYMENT HISTORY

 

Managing Consultant, Quantock Energy & Environment  (March 2004 – present) – established own consulting business to take foreword my work on sustainable transport and build on my previous experience in energy efficiency and renewable energy.

 

Associate, Transport & Travel Research Ltd ( Mar 1998 to Mar 2004) – during this period I established the Bristol office of TTR building up a team of 8 consultants.  Key project experience in this period included co-ordination of the DfT supported Clear Zones initiative promoting sustainable transport technologies in city centers, a study of Low Emission Zones (LEZ) for the NSCA, the development of a transport emissions model for the DfT’s TRAMAQ programme and had a key role in supporting Bristol City’s EC supported VIVALDI transport technology demonstration project

 

Principal Consultant, Transport & Travel Research Ltd (Oct 1997 – Mar 1998) – joined TTR from ETSU and provided a supporting role for Bristol City Council in running European funded sustainable transport demonstration projects. 

 

Project Manager, Energy Efficiency Department, ETSU. (Nov 1996 – Sept 1997) – responsible for transport element of the Energy Efficiency Best Practice programme and was involved in the development of fuel efficiency techniques for the car fleet industry and guidance on routing and scheduling systems for the fright industry.

 

Senior Consultant, Strategic Studies, ETSU (Jan 1996 – Sept 1997)  - managed the completion of the UK Alternative Road Transport Fuel study, developed the emission component of an EC support Transport Impact access model called ITEMS, and initiated a project on assess vehicle emissions through traffic management schemes.

 

Consultant, Strategic Studies, ETSU, (Dec 1992 – Dec 1995) – carried out work on a life-cycle assessment of alternative road transport fuels, energy aspects of light rail systems and various vehicle modelling projects.

 

Energy Analyst, Energy Economics and Statistics, Building Research Establishment (Nov 1991 – Dec 1992) – working largely on energy efficiency building regulations and fuel poverty issues

q       Transport for London - Phase 2 (2002): Feasibility Study of a Low Emission Zone for London.

q       DEFRA – Air Quality Action Plans (2001 – present): Assessment of Local Authority Air Quality Action Plans.

q       DfT - Tramaq UG218 (2001 – present): Management of a project to develop a traffic management and emission model to support local authorities to assess the emissions and air quality impact of new transport and traffic management schemes. 

q       European Commission DG TREN - PRoGR€SS road pricing demonstration (2000 - Present): management of local site evaluation work in Bristol and support for project co-ordination.

q       Energy Saving TrusT - PowerShift (1999 - 2002): Monitoring programme, monitoring the effectiveness of the PowerShift programme in terms of stimulating the UK market for alternative fuels.

q       DfT - Clear Zones (1999 – Present): Co-ordination, management of the Clear Zones programme, which aims to support the deployment of innovative transport technologies and measures in city centres to reduce the impact of the car.

q       NSCA - Low Emission Zone Project (1998 - 1999): Study on the development of the LEZ concept and development of a tool kit to support implementation.

q       DETR - TRAMAQ UG212 (1999 - 2001): Study on the assessment of effectiveness of traffic management during high pollution episodes.

q       European Commission DGXVII - CENTAUR (1997 - 1999): Demonstration project supporting the implementation and evaluation of clean-fuelled vehicles, and other transport measures, in Bristol.
